Best Quality Recordings

Direct Graphics Card Recording

Most tools record the screen. However, the recording loses quality due to the rescaling of video images.

Only direct recording from the PC's graphics card guarantees the highest quality. This process is technically complex and requires numerous adjustments to browsers and the operating system. Audials delivers recordings of the highest quality.

Adaptive Streaming

To compensate for fluctuations in the recipient’s internet bandwidth, Amazon, Netflix, and other services send video streams divided into segments, which can also be encoded differently. Many tools fail when recording this adaptive streaming.

However, Audials can reassemble the adaptive stream into a complete film after recording, without disturbing artifacts or visible transitions, and save it without loss of quality.

EME DRM and HTML5

Modern video streaming is based on the HTML5 standard. The film, encrypted according to the EME standard (encrypted media extensions), is transmitted, decrypted in the browser by a CDM module provided by the vendor, and forwarded to the graphics card. Audials is 100% compatible with this and records these transmitted video streams for you. Audials does not circumvent any copy protection, but rather creates a legally compliant private copy for personal use, according to copyright law, by re-recording played streaming content exclusively from legal sources.

Graphics Card Encoding

Video recordings push PCs to their limits: Especially high resolutions like Full HD demand high performance, as every single frame of a film must be recorded. At 25 frames per second and a feature film length of 90 minutes, that adds up to 135,000 recordings. Therefore, during Audials’ many years of development, a strong focus was placed on optimization to get the best possible performance from your PC for the best possible recording quality.

Audials encodes on the graphics card, so the processor is less burdened and videos can be handled in even higher quality. Graphics card encoding is supported for the most common graphics cards (Nvidia, AMD, Intel).

Frame Rate

Video streaming can be sent at various FPS (frames per second) rates. Common rates are 25 FPS or 29.97 FPS.

Audials detects the frame rate and, if desired, saves the recording at the precisely matching frame rate. This way, playing back the recording looks exactly like the original.

Perfect Video File

The format of video files is important, as it determines the file size and whether they can be played on end devices.

Audials contains a powerful encoder engine and thus generates all common video file formats such as WMV, MP4, MPEG4, AVI, 3GP, 3G2, FLV, MKV, MOV, H.264, and H.265.

Many device profiles for PC, game console, tablet, and smartphones from various manufacturers are configured in Audials.

In the basic settings, the highest quality is prioritized. Alternatively, a space-saving file size can also be selected.

Record in minutes

Even with high-speed recordings, Audials ensures the highest quality by playing the video at an accelerated speed and saving it frame by frame. This way, you'll have a two-hour movie on your hard drive within half an hour. To do this, set the 4x recording speed in the settings before recording.

Record Netflix in Full HD

Thanks to the Audials developers, it is now possible to watch and record Netflix in Full HD (1080p) in Chrome and Firefox browsers or in the internal player, and that without any loss of quality. In the Video Streaming view in Audials, click on the Netflix tile and follow the instructions in the small window that will open. You can also choose whether you want to record in 1080p or if you need 5.1 Surround Sound.

Movie Tag Search Engine

For Netflix and Amazon, Audials automatically adds the movie tags, so you don’t have to change anything!

Audials automatically saves recordings from other sources with the correct name. For these sources, there is a movie tag search engine.

This allows you to enhance new recordings and existing movie files with movie tags. Once a recording is finished, it appears in the top right corner of Audials. Then click on the pencil icon of the file to start the search.

Audials finds the appropriate short description, involved actors, director, genre, and much more on the internet and saves all of this into the movie file for you with a click.

The Recording Scheduler

Any video streams from the internet can be recorded in the highest quality in Chrome and Firefox and saved as MP4, H.264, and other formats with movie tags.

Simply create a list of movies in the Audials Recording Scheduler. To do this, briefly play each movie in your browser, and Audials will register the movie for recording.

Audials then processes the list independently and records all movies for you. This way, Audials automatically provides you with a movie collection. Ingenious, right?

Tip: For series, you don’t need a recording scheduler. Activate the Autoplay function in Netflix and click on the Netflix tile in Audials. And Audials will record the entire season!

Some streaming providers show ads, summaries, or trailers at the beginning of a movie. Audials makes it very easy for you to cut out unwanted content from your recordings. The cut editor also allows you to manually trim frame by frame, so you end up with a perfect video file.

If your device is not listed, you can quickly and easily select the appropriate format using predefined parameter sets. There are also other options:

Create Custom Video Profiles

In expert mode, you can create your own profiles, optimally matched to the performance of your target device. Select the appropriate container and the codec that delivers the best results. Set the desired bitrate and, for videos, the frame rate and size.

Audials sets no limits to your optimization options during conversion. You can either copy and modify existing profiles as a basis for your profile, or create your own profile from scratch.

Among others, the following parameters can be individually defined:

  • The container refers to the output format and file extension of the converted audio or video file. Options include 3GP, 3G2, AVI, FLV, MKV, MOV, MP4, WMV for videos and FLAC, AAC, AIFF, AU, CAF, M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, WMApro for audio files.
  • The codec determines how the content of the file is stored. A distinction is made between audio and video codecs, which must be specified for each. For example, in an MP4 file, an MPEG-4 codec can be used for the video channel and an AAC codec for the audio channel. Only with the correct codecs can the output file be played on playback devices.
  • For both audio and video formats, the quality and size of the output files can be adjusted using the bitrate. Possible audio bitrates: 24-320 kbps. Possible video bitrate: 64-29,040 kbps. Alternatively, the original bitrate can also be retained in both cases. Variable bitrates are, of course, also supported.
  • With the frame size, the resolution of the output file is adjusted to suit the end device. The adjustable spectrum ranges from a pixel resolution of 128×96 through various gradations up to 4096×2160 (FullHD) pixels. Retaining the original size or individual sizes are also possible.
  • The frame rate refers to the number of individual images per second. 25 fps (frames per second) are configured as standard. The frame rate can be individually set between 6 and 60 fps.

Audials then searches the internet and provides you with short descriptions, the list of actors, director, genre, and many other pieces of information for saving.
